NANOTECHNOLOGY – THE SAVIOUR

Young Science Writers’ Program 2019

“We are running the most dangerous experiment in history right now, which is to see how much carbon dioxide the atmosphere can handle before there is an environmental catastrophe,” said Elon Musk, the technology entrepreneur.

We all know what is Climate Change and what catastrophic changes could follow, but we are so mesmerised by our materialistic wealth that we have forgotten the source of our existence – Our Mother Earth. We are killing the golden goose which feeds us by doing and advocating malpractices and believing in the false notion that there is still time before the end of the world.

2012 was thought by the Aztecs as the year in which the world would end, but we proved them wrong. So, can we again prove those people wrong who think that the sixth mass extinction is nearing us? We can, and we should, but no, we are so lazy that we can’t even fight for our own home!

Even Imran Khan said, “If your house is burning, wouldn’t you try and put out the fire?”

The ‘try’ that can help us in recovering our beautiful land is Nanotechnology! Well, theoretically speaking nanotechnology is a field of science where you deal with substances of the atomic, molecular and supramolecular scale. It is being studied at many leading universities and many are also excelling in this field.

Our main purpose is to find a way to use nanotechnology as a vehicle to improve the environmental standards of Mother Earth.

We can use nanotechnology in the following ways:-

  • Nano Coatings – These nanotechnology coatings can be very well used to reduce carbon emissions and decrease the carbon footprint.
  • Nanotech Sensors – These microsensors could detect issues well ahead of time that could help us to save the planet efficiently.

Nanotechnology could also be customised in such a way that it would be used to control and decrease the hole in the ozone layer. It could also be used to decrease the remaining polluting particles and decrease pollution drastically.

So, this is one way or, should we say, a rather convenient and one of the most ideal ways to deal with this problem at hand; to again live as peacefully as our ancestors lived before.

Today, the main issue is not ‘What to do?’, but rather it is ‘When to do and How to do?’ because, at this point, we don’t have a lot of choices left…

Let this word propel all over the world, however far it is and let us be what we are meant to be – “Humans.”

Thank You and God Speed!
